The season started off on the right foot Monday afternoon for the Sigourney Savages boys’ golf team. The Savages hosted the Keota Eagles and the Colfax-Mingo Tigerhawks in a South Iowa Cedar League Triangular at Sigourney’s Golf and Country Club. The Savages had three players finish in the top five, winning the meet with the lowest score team score of 191. Colfax-Mingo finished in second place with 202 stokes, and Keota came away with a third place finish at 209.
Sigourney junior Kaden Benson had the best finish among the area golfers, shooting 8 over 43 in the season opener. His score was the second best in the meet, two strokes behind Colfax-Mingo’s Mason Musher for first place. Savage freshman Dustin Haines carded a 10 over 45, finishing the meet in third place. Senior Jordan Albert finished three strokes behind Haines, taking fourth place.
The Keota Eagles were led by sophomore Jack Eakins, who placed fifth with a 16 over 51. Senior Zach Mousel took sixth place, carding a 17 over 52 for the meet.
The Sigourney and Keota golf teams will return to competition tomorrow afternoon. The Savages return to Sigourney’s Golf and Country Club for a South Iowa Cedar League meet against the Belle Plaine Plainsmen. The Eagles will host a league triangular against Iowa Valley and North Mahaska at the Lagos Acres Golf Course.
