The Iowa Mennonite School boys soccer team played well on both sides of the ball Tuesday night in Kalona, cruising to a 3-0 win over visiting Highland.
The IMS defense lost goalkeeper Cole Yoder early in the game to an injury on a save, leaving backup keeper Isaac Miller to step in. IMS got on the board in the seventh minute when Anthony Villatoro connected with Nick Hwang in the box on a corner kick and Hwang sent it to the back of the net with his head making it 1-0 IMS. Less than a minute later it was the same duo as Villatoro supplied the assist and Hwang supplied the power, scoring in the 18 to make it 2-0 IMS, and that’s where the game stood at half. Iowa Mennonite got their final insurance goal in the 48th minute when Hwang got the ball on a ricochet while laying on his back and was able to thread it past the post and the goal to make it 3-0.
With the win IMS is now 1-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play, they travel to Columbus on Thursday. Highland is now 0-1 on the season and makes the trip to Danville Thursday.
