In a career with so many highlights, Mid-Prairie Senior Allyson Wertz added another big one to the reel in the final home meet of her high school career at Monday’s regional meet at the Kalona golf course.

Wertz shot her career best at the course for both nine and 18 holes. Wertz got into red numbers on her front nine, carding a 34. She finished the back nine with a 42 for a medalist round of 76.

As it would turn out the Golden Hawks needed every bit of that great score to advance. Only the top two teams of eight at the end of the day advance to next week’s regional finals. Centerville took the team title with their 387. The Golden Hawks punched their ticket, finishing in the runner up spot with a 415, edging third place Burlington, Notre Dame who shot 417 and fourth place Louisa-Muscatine who shot 422. Other scores for the Golden Hawks on the afternoon included Paige Slabaugh with a 101, Abby Statler with a 117, Olivia Nisly with a 121, Lindsey Palmer at 122 and Kenzie Bontrager with a 127.

The Golden Hawks advance to Monday’s four team regional final to be played at West Liberty Country Club. Mid-Prairie will be joined there by Centerville, Davenport Assumption and West Liberty. The top two teams at that meet will participate at the state tournament.
