Monday’s Riverside City Council meeting began with a presentation from the English River Watershed Management Authority. Kalona City Administrator and English River WMA Chairperson Ryan Schlabaugh formally presented the council with the resiliency and implementation plan they have been working on for the past two years. The plan has already been adopted by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Schlabaugh said the biggest benefit is they have a working watershed model housed at the University of Iowa’s Flood Center, which will allow cities and counties in the watershed to run scenarios and illustrate effects of flooding to help them prepare better for future events. Information about the English River WMA, including a complete copy of the watershed plan, can be found at EnglishRiverWMA.org.
