A member of the Washington City Council is stepping down next month. At Tuesday’s Washington City Council meeting, councilman Russ Zieglowsky announced to the council that he will be resigning. Zieglowsky is moving from the second ward that he was elected to represent to another area of town. He added he will stay involved in the community and may return to council down the road.

City Administrator Brent Hinson explained the council can’t take action until there’s an official resignation. At that time the council can choose to appoint someone to fill the vacancy or choose to have a special election. Also, residents can petition for a special election. Hinson added most vacancies are filled by appointment. The term to be filled will be about a year and a half.
