Wednesday afternoon a storm with heavy rain, lightning and strong winds hit the KCII-listening area, causing the National Weather Service to issue a severe thunderstorm warning. The warning was issued for Washington, Keokuk, Iowa, Johnson, Louisa, and Henry counties. Alliant Energy reported about 2000 power outages in Washington County and over 850 in Keokuk County. Damage included trees down in Sigourney, power lines down on Wayland Road near Sockum Ridge, and power lines and trees down within the City of Washington. Wind gusts reached 62 miles per hour at the Washington Municipal Airport at 2:35 p.m. The warning in Washington County began at 2 p.m. and expired at 3 p.m.

Six members of the KCII Severe Weather Action Team responded to the storm warning and brought live coverage of the event on AM and FM KCII. The KCII Severe Weather Action Team stood by with emergency generators, so that had the power gone off, KCII would still be on air to bring live coverage of the storms.
