Last week, precipitation in Iowa paired with cooler nights benefited grain and pod fill according to this week’s Crop Progress and Condition Report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Currently, across the state 90% of corn has reached the dough stage, 10 days ahead of the five-year average. In southeast Iowa, 42% of corn has dented. Also, 92% of soybeans are setting pods, five days ahead of last year. Southeast Iowa soybeans are slightly behind that rate with 86% setting pods. Overall, corn is rated at 13% fair, 56% good and 27% excellent while soybeans are 14% fair, 58% good and 24% excellent.
