One-third of the way through the season and the No. 6 Lone Tree Lions (3-0 overall) and the WACO Warriors (1-2 overall) enter week three of the high school football season as two of the top three rushing teams in 8-man football.

Lone Tree has scored an average of 61 points in their first three games this season, and their rushing attack has racked up 857 yards, the second most in Iowa 8-man football. The Lions lead the state with 19 rushing touchdowns, five more than any other 8-man football team. Senior Drake Hotz leads the Lions’ rushing attack, amassing 310 yards and seven touchdowns. Lone Tree looks to stay undefeated this week, traveling to Springville for a district four matchup versus the Orioles (3-0 overall).

WACO has accounted for 752 yards rushing through their first three games, ranking third among 8-man football squads. The Warriors have scored 14 rushing touchdowns, tied for the second most in the state. Sophomore Colton Horak leads WACO’s running game with 328 yards and six touchdowns. The Warriors return to the gridiron this week, traveling to Midland for a district four meeting versus the Eagles (2-1 overall).
