Last Friday’s 28-0 victory over the Louisa-Muscatine Falcons (2-6 overall) was a milestone win for Highland head football coach Joe Donovan. Highland used back-to-back shut performances to improve their overall record to 5-3, ensuring the team’s first winning season since 2012.
The victory was Donovan’s 100th of his high school football coaching career. His 17-year tenure has featured stops at Montezuma, West Liberty, and Pekin. Donovan took over as the head football coach of the Huskies in 2015. Before coming to Riverside, he spent seven years as the head coach of the Pekin Panthers, where he compiled a 41-21 record, including winning 20 of 24 games his final two seasons.
Highland concludes their regular season slate this Friday at home versus the Wapello Indians (5-3). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. tomorrow at Highland High School.
