Dolls, coloring books, movies and games were all gifted to children in the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital by Washington High School students Friday. Six members of the Washington High School National Honor Society organized a toy drive during December and delivered the gifts in person Friday. The students were Linsay Hippen, Reid Basten, Andrea Pingol, Cody Chalupa, Michael Dillon and John Dillon. NHS President Hippen says, “We wanted to find some Christmas presents to give these kids in the hospital for Christmas, since you always hear about giving stuff to the community, well we wanted to give the kids at the hospital something since they go through a lot more than any of us could ever imagine.”

The new toys were donated at the libraries of the buildings in the Washington School District. Also, monetary donations were presented by the Kiwanis and Optimist Clubs and with that money the six students purchased additional gifts. Hippen hopes to see this service project continue in years to come.
