Friday was Alumni Night for Iowa Mennonite School and they welcomed Mediapolis to Dwight Gingerich Court at Hillcrest Union for a Southeast Iowa Superconference doubleheader.

The No. 13 ranked Mediapolis girls spoiled the party early with a 77-54 win. The Bullettes took control in the first half using a 7-0 run in the first quarter and a 14-2 run at the end of the second quarter to lead 45-22 at the half. In the second half IMS came out with renewed effort and played MEPO even the rest of the way, falling by that same 23 point margin.

IMS was led by Suzanna Yoder with 23 points, Alyssa Hershberger added 13 and Callie Shaw finished with 12. With the loss, IMS is now 0-8 on the season.

In the nightcap IMS was able to pull away late for the 64-42 win. Iowa Mennonite used a huge 16-0 run that spanned the first and second quarters to build an 11 point lead but the Bulldogs battled back to within 27-23 going into the half. IMS turned up the defensive pressure in the second half, forcing 24 total turnovers in the game to stretch the lead out to 20 again. Iowa Mennonite was also aided by hot outside shooting, knocking down eight three point goals in the victory including two stretches of three straight threes, one from Trevor Leyden, the other from Caleb Gingerich.

In the win IMS was led by Leyden, Gingerich and Nick Yutzy who all finished with 11 points. Mitchell Schmeider ended with 10. The win is the fifth in a row for IMS who runs their overall record to 7-3. They will next be in action Tuesday when they host Lone Tree.
