The 2017 tax season opens Monday, January 23rd. The Internal Revenue Service will begin accepting electronic tax returns then, but many companies accept tax returns in advance and then submit them the opening day. Most refunds will take less than 21 calendar days to be processed. Also, the IRS is reminding taxpayers claiming certain tax credits to be ready for a longer wait on refunds; these include the earned income tax credit and the additional child tax credit, until February 15th.
Tax returns are due April 18th, the traditional date of April 15th falls on a Saturday this year, and the following Monday is a legal holiday in the District of Columbia, thus pushing back the filing deadline.
