Yarn, tapestries, pillows and more will be featured this February at the Washington Public Library for their annual Fiber Arts February event series. Librarian LeAnn Kunz says all of the events are free and open to the public. She says there are cultural exhibits on display. Mike and Julie Zahs are showing Hmong textiles, that are bright and bold and tell the story of the people who made them. The Hmong are an ethnic group originally from the mountainous region of China, Vietnam, Laos and Thailand. Also, there is an exhibit of Molas courtesy of Debbie Sanderfield Farrow. This artwork is by the Kuna, people of Panama and Columbia.
Kunz feels it’s important to present this each year because there’s a misconception that fiber arts are old crafts, when really it’s been revived and art. Get a full schedule at the library or follow their Facebook Page.
