After starting the winter winning 14 of their first 15 games, the Highland Huskies girls’ basketball team (14-5) has stumbled. The Huskies will look to erase a four-game losing streak at home tonight versus the Wapello Arrows (10-9). Wapello edged Highland, 58-49, on January 3.
It’s been two weeks since Highland recorded their last victory, a 54-27 triumph over the Louisa-Muscatine Falcons (6-14). Three of the Huskies’ four losses have been by three points or less, including a pair of setbacks to Mediapolis (14-5) over the course of four days, 77-75 in overtime and 61-60. Kelsey Hora is the leading scorer and facilitator for Highland, averaging 18.8 points and 3.7 assists per game. Aly Stokes is averaging a double-double, 13 points and 12.5 rebounds a contest. Stokes also leads the squad with 67 blocked shots.
Wapello snapped their own four-game losing streak on Tuesday by defeating Holy Trinity Catholic (9-10), 54-45. Karlee Carey tops the Arrows with 10.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. She posted 13 points and nine rebounds versus Highland in January. The Southeast Iowa Super Conference North doubleheader will commence at 6 p.m. with the girls’ game and the boys will follow at Highland High School.
