The National Football League’s championship game, the Super Bowl, is typically one of the biggest party days of the year. With any big party, there’s likely to be a large amount of snacks, and not all of them are particularly healthy. Hy-Vee Dietitian Melissa Boncher has some tips for how to snack, without having to let your pants out. She says, “I recommend that this weekend not be the weekend you skip your workout. Even if you really aren’t into exercising, just going for a really nice walk, getting some sort of physical activity in. Once the festivities begin, I would recommend eating a small snack. For example, some Greek yogurt with fruit, or a handful of nuts, maybe some crackers with some peanut butter. Something that is maybe 200 calories or less, but keeps you satisfied so you don’t over eat.”

As far as specific snacks to eat during the game, Boncher recommends a recipe for cauliflower with Buffalo wing sauce, or getting low-fat dip for baked chips and vegetables. If people are set on making chicken wings, she suggests taking the skin off the chicken and baking them instead of frying. Boncher adds, the key to staying healthy while snacking during the big game is to use moderation. She says people tend to get into trouble when they’re eating everything in sight, as opposed to taking a little of everything.
