Regular season competition ended at home Friday for the Washington Demon girls’ basketball team (5-16). The Demons hosted the Mount Pleasant Panthers (12-9) in their Southeast Conference finale. A big fourth quarter propelled Mount Pleasant to a 49-37 victory.
The Demons outscored the Panthers 15-7 in the opening quarter.; Mount Pleasant bested Washington by 20 points over the final three-quarters, outscoring the Demons 23-10 in the fourth. Sarah Nacos led Washington with 18 points, while Morgan Brinning added eight. Brooke Stout grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds. The loss drops Washington’s record to 5-16 overall.
The Panthers won the two regular season meetings versus the Demons including 48-35 on January 6 in Mount Pleasant.
The Washington Demon girls’ basketball team begins their postseason run in the Class 4A Region 5 bracket against Mount Pleasant on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Mount Pleasant High School.
