The Sigourney Savage girls basketball team is back on the court in the postseason tonight when they travel to Highland High School to battle the Danville Bears in the class 2A region eight semifinals.

The Savages were 62-42 winners over the Mediapolis Bullettes on Tuesday night in Sigourney. The Savages were led by Autum Barthelman’s 31 points. Anna Ohland had 14 points. They enter the game with a 19-4 overall record, they were 13-3 in the South Iowa Cedar League, finishing in third place. On the season Sigourney is led by Autum Barthelman’s 17 points per game, second best in the South Iowa Cedar League. She also has the team lead and is second in the conference with 92 assists. Anna Ohland has pulled down a team best 129 rebounds.

Danville enters tonight with an overall record of 13-9. They finished conference play with a 10-6 mark, taking fourth in the Southeast Iowa Superconference South division. The Bears were upset winners over the Highland Huskies on Tuesday 57-42, led by 15 points from Alexis Bauer. On the year the Bears are led by McKenzie Speer at seven points per game. She also has the team lead with 60 assists, sixth best in the Superconference South. Alyssa Pfadenhauer is best on the team and seventh in the conference with 139 rebounds. The winner of tonight’s game will advance to the regional final, one step away from the state tournament, to match up with the winner of undefeated and No. 3 Central Decatur and Pekin. The Savages and Bears will tip off tonight at 7PM at Highland High School.
