The Columbus Community and Highland boys’ and girls’ track teams will travel to Tipton tonight for a chance to go to state.
The top two finishers at each event will automatically qualify for Des Moines and the Columbus’ girls’ Shania Boyd is well on her way for doing just that. Her 17’5’’ leap in the long jump is the best jump posted by any of the participating schools. She also has the third best time in both the 100m and 100m hurdles. Members to look out for the Huskies are Kelsey Hora who has the third best time in the 200m dash and Emily Yahnke has posted the fifth best time in the 100m dash.
Abel Mena leads the Columbus boys’ as he sits as second in the 400m hurdles with a best time of 58.61 seconds. Tommy Pretz will be in a battle for a qualifying spot as he has the third best long jump in the district. The Huskies’ Jake Wood looks to do some damage in the 100m where he has posted the sixth best time this season.
Action gets started at 4 p.m. today in Tipton.
