Roth Field in Wayland will be a hot spot for track and field tonight as they host one of 10 class 1A state qualifying track meets.

Area teams at WACO tonight include Iowa Mennonite School, Keota, Lone Tree, Sigourney, Winfield-Mt. Union and the Warriors.

On the boys side of the event, the Sigourney Savages enter tonight with top five times among the competing field in many contested events. Avery Moore tops the 200 field in 22.31 seconds, the 400 field in 49.57 seconds, and the 400 hurdles in 56.27 seconds. Other top events for the Savages look to be Moore and Bryce Goldman second and third respectively in the 100, Moore second in the long jump and fourth in the shot put, second for the 4×100 and sprint medley teams, Tyler Crawford fourth in the 3200, fourth for the 4×800 team and Will Magill fifth in the high jump.

Lone Tree comes into tonight poised to qualify several events for the state meet. Leading the Lions are Jovonte Squiers first in the long jump field at 22’1”, Niko Gosnell first in the high jump at 6’6”, Casey Shall first in the discus at 132′, Shall and Dawson Swails second and third respectively in the shot put, second for the 4×200 team, third for the 4×100 team, sprint medley team and Niko Gosnell in the 110 hurdles. Fourth for Brock Smith in the 800 and the shuttle hurdle team and fifth for Drake Hotz in the 200 and the distance medley team.

The WACO Warriors have Cornell Hulme with the best time in the field in the 100m dash at 10.99 seconds and the Warrior shuttle hurdle relay team is the best at 1:01.56. Beau Beckler is second in the 110 hurdles, Colton Horak is third in the 400 hurdles. Horak is fourth in the 110 hurdles, the 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams are both fourth with the sprint medley team fifth.

For Winfield-Mt. Union Bryce Robison is second in the 200, Kolten Buster fourth in the long jump and the Wolves 4×100 and 4×400 teams are fifth.

For Keota Jacob Wickencamp is third in the 200 and the Eagles have the third best 4×200 team. Wickencamp is also fifth in the 100 and long jump.

Iowa Mennonite is led by Drake Brezina who is fifth in the 400.

In girls action Sigourney comes in with the highest qualifying marks. The Savages are led by Autum Barthelman with her top qualifying times of 12.77 seconds in the 100m dash and 15.06 seconds in the 100m hurdles. Summer Barthelman is the top qualifier in the 400 with a time of 1:06.48 and the long jump with a leap of 17’5”. The Sigourney shuttle hurdle relay team is the best entering the field with a time of 1:09.53. Other top marks for the Savages include Sloane Magill third in the shot put, third for the 4×100, 4×200 and sprint medley teams and fifth for Autum Barthelman in the 200.

Winfield-Mt. Union enters with Cecilia Hemsworth second in the 800, Pearl-Krieger Coble second in the 1500, distance medley team fourth, 4×800 team fifth and Kara Wade fifth in the discus.

Iowa Mennonite School has Emma Beachy second in the discus, Suzanna Yoder and Rubye Ney are fourth in the 400 and 400 hurdles respectively and the 4×400 team is fifth.

Lone Tree has the third best shuttle hurdle relay team, fourth best 4×800 team, fifth best 4×200 team and Elena Sieverding is fifth in the high jump field.

WACO has the second best shuttle hurdle relay team, fourth best 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400 teams and Mayme Hinh is fourth in the shot put field.

Other teams joining the field tonight include Cardinal of Eldon, Danville, Durant, English Valleys, Moravia, Moulton-Udell, New London, and Pekin. Action begins at 4p.m. and continues into the evening at Roth Field in Wayland.
