It was a pair of exciting softball games at Washington High School on Thursday but the Demons dropped both games against No. 2 Fairfield.
In game one, the Trojans struck first by plating a run in the first inning after a RBI single by Ashton Drish. The Demons were able to answer in the fourth inning with Alexa Mitchell hitting a two RBI single to push the score to 2-1. The Trojans later tied it and seven innings was not enough as the contest was pushed to extras. In the eighth, the Trojans’ Kaylee Wilson was able to have the winning RBI with a single to seal the 3-2 Fairfield win. Both pitchers were spectacular as Mitchell finished the night going eight innings pitched of three run ball, and Fairfield’s Haley Beard went eight innings, giving up two runs.
In game two, the Trojans jumped on the Demons early by scoring three runs in the first two innings on a pair of walks and a couple pass balls that allowed runners to score. The Demons chipped away at the lead by scoring on a RBI single by Morgan Brinning to bring the score to 3-1. After the Trojans tacked on one more run in the third, the Demons made things interesting on a two RBI double by Kaitlyn Mitchell that brought the score to 4-3. The Trojans put the game away however in the eighth by adding three insurance runs to win 7-3. Mitchell finished game two going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI. Drish was huge for the Trojans going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
With the losses, the Demons fall to 4-3 on the year as the Trojans improve to a perfect 8-0. Washington gets right back on the diamond today as they head to West Branch for a tournament.
