Southeast Iowa has the driest soil moisture conditions in the state at this time.

According to the USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition report, 17% of topsoil in southeast Iowa is very short on moisture, 39% short, while 43% is adequate and only one percent is surplus. The state’s overall rate on topsoil moisture is 71% adequate, a 28 point difference from the local levels.

In regards to subsoil moisture, Iowa’s overall rating is 18% very short to short, 79% adequate, and three percent surplus. Southeast Iowa is below those marks at eight percent very short, 29% short, 61% adequate and two percent surplus. Rain is expected over the weekend, listen to KCII for weather updates.
