In the final conference baseball doubleheader of the season, Mount Pleasant took advantage of early runs in both games to complete the sweep of Washington on Thursday night.
As heard on KCII, early walks and costly errors proved to be a Demon killer as they dropped game one 8-3. After the Panthers jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead the Demons tied it in the third with an RBI single by Luke Turner and RBI groundout by Collin Zear. The Demons tacked on one more in the third on a sacrifice fly by Zear, but it was all Panthers after that as they added six runs on three Demon errors to cruise to the win. Offensively, the Demons did have their chances as they out-hit Mount Pleasant 8-7. Leading the way was Ryan Loy and Zach Londberg, each with a pair of hits. Kole Hinrichsen went 5 1/3 innings on the bump giving up four earned runs.
In game two, it was déjà vu for Washington as Mt. Pleasant managed a pair of runs in the first again on a two-run bomb off the bat of Pat Canby to make it 2-0. Washington tied it in the second with an RBI groundout by Luke Turner and Aaron Vittetoe scored on a pass ball. The Panther offense took over from their as they racked up 11 hits on nine runs to take game two 9-2. Zach Eberling was huge for the Panthers going 2-for-3 with two RBI. The Demons were led by Aaron Vittetoe going 2-for-3 with a walk. Zach Londberg went four innings on the mound with a pair of strikeouts and giving up five earned runs.
With the losses the Demons drop to 15-10 on the year as the Panthers improve to 20-12 and jump Washington for second place in the Southeast Conference. The Demons will get back at it on Monday night when they host Oskaloosa (20-10).
