The Highland School board is discussing purchasing staff vehicles for the fall.
Superintendent Dr. Mike Jorgensen said in the last school year the district spent $8,000 on reimbursements for gas expenses for staff work travel. Jorgensen spoke with transportation director George Schultz, “He felt like if we purchased maybe a car and a van that we would have enough vehicles that we could require staff to always use district vehicles and not reimburse for personal use.”
The vehicles would be purchased using SILO or PEPL funds, and would be used for out of district travel. In-district travel for employees such as the school nurse and IT specialist would still be reimbursed. Jorgensen said having district vehicles worked well for the Washington School District. The board passed a solution to allow Schultz to seek vehicle bids, and the board will look at the bids at their August meeting.
