Washington will host the Mexican Consulate this week for a ribbon cutting for a new section at the library.
A Mexican/Latin Corner is being developed in the library, where part of the Spanish collection will now include information for Mexican and Latin American immigrants joining the Washington community. This will be the second trip to Washington this summer for the Consul, based in Omaha, Nebraska; she visited during the Summer Classic’s Noche Latina.
Director of the Library Debbie Stanton says she’s looking forward to the event, “The idea is that basically she’ll be providing the information that people really need on things like how to get a passport, dual citizenship, things like that, records, and things the consulate takes care in Omaha, so that people don’t have to travel all the way to Omaha to get the information.” She adds the library does have many Spanish speaking and reading patrons, and the section includes welcome brochures, library information, and books, including some written in Spanish originally.
The ribbon cutting will be held with Latinos for Washington at 6 p.m. Thursday at the library.
