A former Brighton and Wayland resident now living in the Houston area says her neighborhood in Humble, Texas, has been impacted by the historic flooding caused by Tropical Storm Harvey. Maria Schneider worked in the Brighton and Washington Schools for 19 years before retiring in 2003. She moved in south to live with her daughter Marisa three years ago. Schneider tells KCII News that the neighborhood is helping each other as some houses are flooded with water, and they are also getting help from Louisiana.
Schneider says the flood water did not reach her house, but did get to within 10 feet of her front door before they started to recede Monday morning into the nearby San Jacinto River. She says the rain looked like “buckets of water” coming down, and they expect more as the storm returns after it drifted back over the Gulf of Mexico.
According to the National Weather Service, an additional 10-15 inches of rain is possible over the Houston area by the end of the week.
