A week after falling to them in a tournament the Sigourney volleyball team got their sweet revenge against Pekin on Tuesday by winning their first contest of the year.
In a back and forth affair the Savages edged the Panthers in five sets after falling down 2-1 (19-25, 25-20, 20-25, 25-21, 16-14). It’s been awhile since the Savages have claimed area bragging rights between the two schools as that was the first win over the Panthers in five years including being bounced by them in the postseason a year ago. Sydney Streigel came up big for the Savages leading them defensively with 19 digs. Brooke Waechter and Sloane Magill were a good one-two punch combining for 29 kills on the night. Leah Carter managed 39 assists as the setter.
With the win Sigourney improves to 1-3 as Pekin drops to 5-4. The Savages get back on the court a week from Monday traveling to Keota.
