The continuing legacy of the Ainsworth Elementary building is now in the hands of the city of Ainsworth.
The Highland school board voted 6-0 Monday night to sell the Ainsworth Elementary School building and playground, and the ballfield and concession stand, for a total of $2. The board held a public hearing before taking action, in which Superintendent Dr. Mike Jorgensen stated the city has agreed to let the Highland district use the building as a bus stop shelter in inclement weather. Jorgensen recommended the sale of both properties to Ainsworth. President Kevin Engle also read a written statement from former board member Mike Roberts in support of selling the building to the city of Ainsworth.
Transportation Director George Schulz commented on the board’s decision, “I’d really like to thank the board, Dr. Jorgensen, Sue’s (Rich, Business Manager) done a lot of work on this, the city of Ainsworth. You’ve fulfilled my dream, to keep that school when we’ve got it. I just want to thank you very much for the hard work you’ve put into it.”
Board member Lois Schneider commented that she was appreciative of the proper process the board took in handling the sale of the building.
