Some may be surprised that a town of about 700 people is home to a character animation studio that has created movie trailers, music videos, phone apps, and work both locally and internationally.
Steve Jennings of Grasshorse Studio in Winfield will be giving a presentation on the company’s history, “I’d like to show some of the first work that Grasshorse did from Powerpuff Girls and Star Wars: Clone Wars, then highlighting some of the great work we’ve done here in Winfield that’s gone out into the world internationally.”
Grasshorse has held similar community events in the past that have brought animators into their business, and they want to create further awareness in the southeast Iowa community, “Outreach-wise we need to be as present as possible to let folks know, especially kids know that this is a career for them. We’ve had animators that we’ve met at 13 years old that have ended up coming here and animating on projects.” Jennings encourages potential animators to enroll in the animation program at Southeastern Community College in Burlington, which him and his sister Kathy Buxton serve on their advisory board.
Past to Future Animation in Winfield is presented by the Winfield Historical Society and will be at the Winfield Legion Building Sunday at 2 p.m.
