WEMIGA Waste has been operating Washington County’s recycling center for nearly one year and a review of usage was presented at Tuesday’s Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting.
Owner of WEMIGA, Lynn Whaley says the amount of waste is down so far this year, “On the previous year we were down on our tonnage in landfill from 80.62 now to 172.50 to back then, a year ago.” Looking at September and October figures, Whaley said the landfill increased during that time by 14.61 tons while recyclables was down 24.12 tons. Rural residents of Washington County may use the site to dispose of regular household garbage, and to recycle plastics, tin, aluminum, cardboard, paper, glass, batteries, and scrap metal. Residents of the city of Washington can also use the site for recycling.
