To the victor goes the spoils. That was the case for the 8-2 Washington football team as 11 players were recently recognized with all district honors.
There were plenty of honors to go around as seven Demons were named to the first team. Jack Redlinger was the primary back for the Demons who put together an impressive senior campaign corralling the third-most rushing yards in the district with 918 yards and 12 touchdowns. Redlinger often ran behind fellow first teamers in Mark Engelken and Mitchell Huisenga. The senior linemen helped pave the way for the team with the most yards per rush in the state. To add to the awards, Huisenga was named the district lineman of the year. Jaivonn Willis added playmaking abilities on the outside hauling in 40 receptions for 837 yards and 13 touchdowns. Ryan Reighard was also named to the first team as a utility player. The senior started out the year at quarterback managing 500 yards of total offense in two games before an injury that made him transfer to the defense. As a linebacker, he was fourth on the team in tackles with 39. Fellow linebacker Tanner Murphy was also named to the first team, having the third-most tackles in the district with 63 and four sacks. The final first teamer was defensive end Cale Hobscheidt. The senior had 51 tackles and brought in seven receptions for 96 yards as a tight end.
Four Demons headlined the second team. Luke Turner was chosen as a quarterback. The sophomore was forced into action in week three and he never looked back, having a team-high 2,000 yards of offense and was responsible for 22 touchdowns. Dalton Myers developed into a reliable receiver, being second on the team in receptions with 29 for 362 yards and four scores. On the defensive side Tristin Westphal-Edwards and Mario Tapia were chosen for the second team all district. Westphal-Edwards was a sure tackler having the second-most on the team with 59. Tapia was a lockdown corner that had many pass breakups and three interceptions.
The Demons made it back to the postseason after a year absence.
