The Highland and Iowa Mennonite School basketball teams met for the second time this season on Tuesday night in Riverside.
As heard on KCII, in the girls’ game it was all Huskies from the start en route to a 56-24 win. The Highland zone defense was on display all night long, as IMS struggled to get much going offensively. The Huskies jumped out to a 13-4 lead after the first and 31-12 at the break. The game never got closer in the second half and the Huskies managed the 32-point victory. Alyson Stokes had another big day for Highland with 21 points and Brylee Carolan added 11. Suzanna Yoder led IMS with 16 points. With the win Highland improves to 11-3 on the season and IMS falls to 2-11.
In the boys game Iowa Mennonite salvaged a split on the night winning 68-55. Highland had to play catch up all game, as IMS quickly jumped out to a 10-0 lead before the Huskies found the bucket. They did chip away at the lead however, to only being down 18-12 after the first and 27-24 at half. With a slight 44-40 advantage heading into the final frame, IMS made plays down the stretch to escape town with a victory. Cole Ours was big in the second half scoring 17 of his game-high 21 points.
