Record low temperatures kicked off January, and the overall average temperature for the month was below normal.

According to the National Weather Service, the average temperature this January in Washington was 18.3 degrees, while 20.9 degrees is normal. The record low average temperature was 9.5 degrees set in 1912. Snowfall was also below the normal 6.4 inches with 2.2 inches recorded with a max snow depth of five inches.
