Two counties in Iowa remain under a burn ban.
According to the Iowa Fire Marshal, Keokuk County and Hardin County still have burn bans in place. There had been six other counties included in the bans, but those have been lifted. Keokuk County’s ban began April 30th and was requested by Keokuk County Emergency Management Coordinator Larry Smith. A burn ban means that “no person shall engage in open burning in Keokuk County … except as specifically permitted by Iowa Code.” Any violation is a simple misdemeanor. The ban was put in place as the fire marshal found that conditions are such that open burning constitutes a danger to life or property.
