A school in Washington is undergoing construction this summer to make the entrance safer for students and staff.
Principal Adam Miller at Stewart Elementary School says crews are working on the main entrance of the two-story building, “Currently, when you come in our building there is our gym entrance right off of our main entrance, and then basically you can just walk right into the school and then our office is around the corner. So, what this is actually going to do is this is going to funnel people, when they come in our front doors they’re going to actually have to come right through our office in order to have access to our building.”
This will direct everyone through the office, making it easier for staff to monitor who is in the building at all times. The remodel will make the entrance to the gym where the nurse’s office was previously. So the new entry area will have the principal’s office, nurse’s office, a conference room, and a larger, inviting secretary area. Construction is expected to be done before school begins.
