Plans are underway for Flying Pigs to return to Washington for the annual duathlon.
Organizer Terry Hartzler explained the event at a recent Washington City Council meeting, “It is a 5k run, 20 mile bike ride, and then a 1.5 mile run. You can do it as an individual or as team of two. And we do have a little route change this year. Last year, we did it conjunction with the Craft Fair that was downtown around the square and we are going to do that again this year because it’s just nice to be able to have two events where we keep people in town, make it an opportunity to see our community and enjoy it. But this year we are going to take the route off of the square so that we don’t have so much congestion around the square.” The race will start and end in front of the YMCA, so the 100 block of East Main Street from Iowa Avenue to North 2nd Avenue will be closed to traffic. Hartzler adds they usually have 75 to 100 participants for the Flying Pigs Duathlon. The event will be Saturday, September 8th in conjunction with the Craft Fair in Central Park.
