The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team split a River Valley Conference doubleheader with West Branch Monday night at Paul N. Bailey Field in Wellman.

In a pair of games heard on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and KCIIradio.com, the Golden Hawks took game one 5-0 before falling in the nightcap 10-0 in five innings. In the first contest, Mid-Prairie’s Collin Gingerich was terrific in earning his first varsity win of the season, throwing a complete game, seven hit shut out. The Golden Hawk offense got the job done with a four run rally in the third and added another insurance run in the fifth. At the plate the Hawks were led by Karson Gingerich with a triple and two batted in.

Game two saw West Branch enjoy the hot start with the Bears scoring twice in their first at bat. They would add four more in the third and another four spot in the fifth to finish the game early. The Golden Hawk offense couldn’t figure out West Branch starter Matt Paulsen who went all five innings and gave up just two hits. Brad Tornow took the loss for the Hawks going three innings, giving up five hits and six runs. With the split, Mid-Prairie is now 8-11 on the year. The Golden Hawks are back on the diamond tonight against the Camanche Indians in Wellman.
