The Washington County Board of Supervisors made a decision on property assessment for the Federation Bank building at Tuesday’s meeting.

Washington County Auditor Dan Widmer presented the board with information regarding the appraisal process. “At your request I did contact Cook Appraisal in Iowa City and spoke with them about an appraisal. The cost of such a commercial appraisal would be in the neighborhood of $4,000 to $5,000, and would take approximately nine or 10 weeks to complete.”

Another possible option to move the project forward is a consultation. This process would cost no more than $2,500 and would take only five or six weeks. Widmer explained what the consultation would entail, “That consultation would result in a ‘quick and dirty’ idea of here’s what the property is worth. Not a lot more than that, not really anything less. Spoke informally with a few of your gentlemen and that’s the route that you suggested we take so that’s the plan.” Members of the board reiterated that they have received a lot of positive feedback from constituents about the idea. The supervisors instructed Widmer to move ahead with the consultation plan.
