The Iowa Mennonite School boys soccer team received all-conference recognition from the Southeast Iowa Superconference for their performance in the recently completed season.
Six members of the club were recognized with all-conference honors. Cole Ours and Isaiah Swantz were first team all-conference selections. Ours finished third in the conference with 15 goals and finished in a tie for the conference lead with 11 assists. Swantz scored 12 times this year and ended the season with nine assists.
The IMS second team selections went to the defense with Blake Bontrager in goal and Mitchell Schmeider receiving the accolade. Bontrager finished the year with 77 saves, and a .827 save percentage. He and Schmeider were part of an IMS defense that allowed just one goal per game and posted eight shut outs in 20 games.
Reggie Borntrager and Louis Etienne were honorable mention selections. Borntrager, along with Schmeider was another anchor in the back line for IMS. Etienne finished the year with 17 goals, best in the Superconference and 10th in class 1A.
IMS was ranked as high as No. 2 in class 1A during the course of the year, made their first appearance at the state tournament since 2000 and finished the season with an 18-2 overall record.
