Severe weather swept across southeast Iowa Tuesday evening.
At approximately 5:14 p.m. a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for northwestern Washington County. Severe thunderstorm warnings were later issued for southern and northeastern portions of Washington County. Tornado warnings were issued for Iowa and Johnson counties. Fifty-two mile-per-hour wind gusts were recorded at the Washington Airport. Eighty-three mile-per-hour wind gusts were recorded at the Iowa City Airport. Parnell in southern Iowa County received one inch in diameter-sized hail. There were numerous reports of trees and power lines down in Parnell and Williamsburg. Alliant Energy reported 218 customers without power in Wellman and 113 customers without power in Kalona.
