The Mid-Prairie boys and girls basketball teams travel to Tipton Friday to battle the Tigers in a River Valley Conference doubleheader.

The Golden Hawk girls are 2-0 on the young season after opening the year with road wins at Durant and West Liberty. Last time out the Hawks beat the Comets 54-40 on Tuesday behind 28 points and 12 boards from Shae Becker. On the season, Mid-Prairie is led by Becker, scoring 18 points per game, second most in the RVC. Becker also leads the team on the glass and is third in the conference with 17 total rebounds. Kessa Jones has the team lead and is second in the conference with five assists.

Tipton comes into the contest with an overall record of 0-1 after a 57-55 loss to Iowa City Regina on the road Tuesday. Amanda Smith led the Tigers with a 28 point 12 rebound double double. Emily Hermsen had three assists. These two teams met three times last year with Mid-Prairie taking the two regular season meetings 58-52 and 62-49 but dropping the playoff matchup 57-55.

The Mid-Prairie boys basketball team opens their season tonight with the game at Tipton. The Hawks are coming off of a 5-17 season last year. The Hawks return their top seven players by the numbers including leading scorer Cale Robertson at 10 points per game, assist leader Brad Tornow with 67 and leading rebounder Tom Butters with 159.

Tipton comes in with an overall record of 0-1 after a 64-62 loss at Iowa City Regina. The Tigers were led in the game by Andrew Stewart with 16 points. Frank Bierman pulled down 15 rebounds and Trent Pelzer had four assists. These two teams met twice last year with the Tigers sweeping by 81-60 and 81-63 scores.
