Iowa County is now a Home Base Iowa Community. The program works to assist veterans by connecting them with over 2,100 businesses that have pledged to hire over 10,000 veterans. Iowa County is the 90th Home Base Iowa Community. To qualify a community has to have 10% of businesses become Home Base Iowa Businesses, develop an incentive package for veterans, display Home Base Iowa Community designation, and have a resolution of support from the local governing body. Iowa offers veterans and transition service members no state taxes on military pensions, in-state tuition, and down payment assistance and closing costs toward a qualifying home purchase. Other local Home Base Iowa Communities include Louisa, Henry, and Jefferson counties.
