The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams hit the road Tuesday to face the Wilton Beavers in a River Valley Conference doubleheader.
The Mid-Prairie girls come into the game with a 6-2 overall record. They are currently ranked No. 15 in the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. In their last game they were beaten by No. 7 Bellevue 65-40. For the year, the Golden Hawks are led by Shae Becker at 14 points per game, sixth best in the River Valley Conference South Division. Becker also leads the Hawks with 47 rebounds eighth most in the RVC. Kessa Jones has the team lead with 17 assists.
Wilton enters play with an overall mark of 7-1. Last time out the Beavers beat North Cedar 67-34. Kortney Drake led Wilton with 19 points. For the year the Beavers are led by Emily Lange scoring 22 points per game, most in the RVC and seventh in class 2A. Drake leads Wilton with 38 assists, second most in the River Valley South. Aubrey Putman is third in the RVC with 71 rebounds. These two teams met twice a year ago with each team winning on their home floor, the Hawks 49-44 in Wellman and the Beavers 65-63 in Wilton.
The Mid-Prairie boys come into the matchup with an overall mark of 4-3 after a thrilling 56-54 last second win over Bellevue Saturday. Tom Butters led the Hawks in the win with 24 points and 17 rebounds. For the season Butters and Cale Robertson lead the Hawks each averaging 12 points per game, ninth in the RVC. Butters leads the Hawks on the glass with 69 rebounds, second in the River Valley and Brad Tornow leads Mid-Prairie and the RVC South with 32 assists.
The Wilton boys stand at 1-6 on the season. Last game they were beaten by North Cedar 66-52. Jared Townsend scored 16 in the loss. For the year the Beavers are led by Townsend at 15 points per game, sixth in the RVC south. He also has the team lead and is seventh in the conference at 20 assists. He leads the Beavers on the glass with 55 boards, fifth in the RVC. These two teams met twice a season ago with the Golden Hawks sweeping the series 76-58 in Wellman and 77-37 in Wilton.
Action begins tonight at 6p.m. at Wilton High School.
