A new police chief will be hired in Washington in 2019. At Tuesday’s Washington City Council meeting, a retirement agreement was approved by the council for Police Chief Greg Goodman. His last day with the department will be May 31, 2019. Goodman has worked for the City of Washington for 34 years.
At the meeting, Goodman said the department will soon be making arrangements to acquire a new K-9 officer, “There’s a six-week training process. What’ll happen is Seth and actually Brett Sorrells and a guy from the Iowa State Prison System, who’s very good, will go out there (to Indiana), they’ll pick out the dog, bring it home for a week, and then they go back for the training for six weeks. So it’s a good process, very good.” Officer Seth Adam will be the next K-9 handler, following the retirement of K-9 Ultro and handler Brett Sorrells.
City staff is working on the process to hire a new chief of police and will bring a recommendation to the council in January. Internal and external applicants will be welcome.
