The Iowa Mennonite School boys and girls basketball teams travel to Mediapolis Tuesday for a Southeast Iowa Superconference doubleheader against the Bulldogs and Bullettes, looking to avenge a sweep from earlier in the season.
The IMS girls enter play with an overall record of 7-6 after a 50-45 win over Louisa-Muscatine Friday in Kalona behind 29 points from Suzanna Yoder. For the season, Yoder leads IMS, the Superconference and class 1A scoring 26 points per game. Yoder is also the team leader, conference leader and ninth in 1A with 59 assists. Yani Gutierrez has pulled in a team best 92 rebounds, eighth best in the Superconference.
Mediapolis comes in with an overall record of 13-1. They snapped Highland’s 10 game winning streak with a 64-59 win in Riverside Friday behind 41 points from Maya Johnson. For the season, Johnson leads the Bullettes and is second in the Superconference at 23 points per game. Helaina Hillyard is best in the state in class 2A with 101 assists. Ruthie Jahn leads the Bullettes on the glass with 112 boards, sixth in the SEISC. These two teams met earlier in the season in Kalona with MEPO taking a 62-37 win.
The Iowa Mennonite boys come into the game with an overall record of 8-3 after a 66-38 win over Louisa-Muscatine on Friday. In the contest IMS was led by Eli Ours 19 points. On the year, Ours leads IMS scoring 14 points per game, 10th in the SEISC. Caleb Gingerich leads IMS with 64 assists, second in the Superconference while Jeremy Niemeyer has pulled down a team best 80 rebounds, sixth in the SEISC.
The Bulldogs come into the game with an overall record of 9-3. The Bulldogs beat Highland in Riverside on Friday 61-52 on the strength of 21 points from Drew Schroeder. On the season the Bulldogs are led by Ben Wolgemuth scoring 21 points per game, second in the Superconference. Wolgemuth is also the team’s leading rebounder with 125 boards, third in the conference. Drew Schroeder leads MEPO with 45 assists, fifth in the SEISC. These two teams met earlier in the season the MEPO taking a 66-48 win in Kalona. Action begins tonight at 6p.m. at Mediapolis High School.
