Students and faculty from Mid-Prairie West Elementary School were evacuated after a natural gas leak.
According to Superintendent Mark Schneider, just after 10 a.m. Monday there was a scent of natural gas reported, which prompted the evacuation. Students were transported by bus to the local YMCA. Wellman city officials were able to locate the leak, and according to Schneider, were able to fix the issue in less than an hour. The school was deemed safe and students were able to return to class at 11:15 that morning.
