Mid-Prairie freshman Rylee Vercande placed in the top five in the 132lb weight class in the first ever Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association Girls State Championship meet.

Vercande went 3-1 on the day, placing fifth. She opened the day with a bye into the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals she met Kylie Doty of Colfax-Mingo and fell by 8-4 decision. In the consolation bracket, Vercande rolled through the competition pinning Lauren Voaklander of Osage in two minutes and Karmen Hawkins of Cedar Rapids Jefferson in just 20 seconds before beating Emma Grimm of Charles City by 14-3 major decision.
