The Washington Demon basketball teams will be slam dunking cancer this Friday. The girls’ and boys’ basketball teams will be taking on Keokuk in a varsity double-header at Washington High School. Erin Smith with the Washington Athletic Boosters says why it’s important to hold this event, “I think cancer research is just very important trying to find the cure to help everyone. We’ve had some of the kids around the school who have had relative who has had cancer or has passed away from cancer, so it’s just a good way for them to kind of help raise some money to go to research.” There will be special t-shirts for sale, a bucket will be passed, and ribeye sandwiches will be for sale with proceeds going to cancer research. There will also be a “jail” you can pay $4 to put someone in and then they’ll have to pay $10 to escape. Smith says this was a big hit with the students during the school day last year.

The girls’ game starts at 6:15 p.m. and will be followed by the boys’ game. If you can’t make it to cheer on the Demons in person, listen to the games on KCII on FM 106.1 starting with the pregame show at 5:45 p.m.
