A Fairfield psychologist has been suspended by the Iowa Board of Psychology. In December the Iowa Board of Psychology filed charges against Licensed Psychologist John Edgette. He violated the terms of an initial agreement with the impaired practitioner review committee. The Board stated he had the inability to practice with reasonable skill and safety by reason of the excessive use of alcohol on a continuing basis.

In January 2017, Edgette was convicted of operating while under the influence. A few months later, he was caught consuming alcohol at work. Edgette made an agreement with the impaired practitioner review committee which required him to abstain from alcohol. After the agreement was made, Edgette tested positive for alcohol in addition to missing several required chemical screenings, and mandatory check-ins.

Friday, February 1st, the board announced that Edgette will have his psychology license suspended until he completes a comprehensive substance abuse evaluation with a licensed provider who specializes in addiction.

Once the board determines that Edgette can return to practicing psychology he will be placed on probation for three years. Conditions of his probation include enrolling in the board’s chemical screening program and abstaining from the use of drugs and alcohol.
