Seven applications have been received so far for a free grant to improve homes in Washington. The City of Washington has partnered with East Central Iowa Council of Governments to offer $15,000 grants for exterior improvements to homes along business Highway 92: East Washington Street, West Madison Street, and 12th Avenue. Homeowners must meet income guidelines. City Administrator Brent Hinson says it’s a way to help homeowners in Washington, “There’s no required match for it. I think it’s a potentially a great deal for people that may need the assistance and so we’re really hoping that it’ll help people and make a nice improvement to our community.”
There is no dollar match required from homeowners. The $15,000 can be used for exterior improvements like roof repairs, siding, windows, foundation repairs. Applications are due February 22nd and will be reviewed for selection.
