The Sigourney and Winfield-Mt. Union girls’ basketball teams squared off in Sigourney last night, with the Savages taking a commanding win.
Winfield struggled to get points on the board throughout, with the Savages imposing their will on the Wolves quarter after quarter. Sigourney was nearly flawless at taking care of the ball, turning it over a mere eight times while forcing 24. That helped add on to their lead and finish them off by a 41-17 score.
Sigourney’s Megan Stuhr led all scorers with 13 points with Stacia Hammes finishing not far behind with eight. W-MU was led by Liana Sweezer in a game that ultimately turned out to be her last in a Winfield Mt-Union uniform, putting up six.
With the loss, the Wolves end their season at 5-17 on the year. The Savages, meanwhile, improve to 18-3 and move on to face Holy Trinity on Friday in the next round of the playoffs. Friday night’s game is set to tip at 7:00.
